A decade ago, I was traveling in Pakistan and I met an acquaintance who told me that he had a cousin in the CIA. I asked him why, because I did not believe that such a position was necessary in a corrupt country like Pakistan where everyone was scared stiff. The colleague said that he had worked with both agents and that they were all good guys. Well, the conversation took off from there and I discovered that all sorts of people in Pakistan have CIA ties.
There is no doubt that the United States has a number of important allies in the form of Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka. All these nations are important to the United States in various ways. But, I also learned that Pakistan needs its fair share. The government needs to do something to improve the conditions of its people. And economic growth is key for this, along with better relations with the United States.
The government must be able to provide a good standard of living for its citizens. And economic growth is critical to achieving this. The government must also keep in mind that without decent work, it is impossible to achieve true economic growth. The government must therefore take steps to improve the lot of ordinary people. Otherwise, it will not only be a failure in the sense that it will fail to meet its objectives but it will also fail to maintain the peace in the country.
Pakistan's poor economic development is having an impact on its economy. This is a country that is developing at a rapid pace. However, corruption is hampering its economic development because powerful elements are involved in the business community. This means that not only the government but even private sector companies have been targeted by criminals.
To arrest the downward trend in Pakistan's economic growth, the government has to clean the house of corruption. A large number of businesses, both small and large, have disappeared over the past few years because of rampant and widespread corruption. Economic development requires public investment. However, if that does not come out in the form of decent work and better wages, then the investors will not invest.
Only a corrupt and ineffective government can lead to such a situation. Private investment will dry up and there will be no decent work to be had. This will be a tragedy for Pakistan's economic growth. If the government really wants to bring a consistent and rapid economic growth, then it needs to do more than just clean house. It has to take harsh measures to ensure that justice prevails in the society. Without effective and strong laws covering all aspects of Pakistan's economic life, there will be no improvement in its economic status.
