A small business refers to any business that operates on a small scale, having less number of employees, lower capital investments, fewer number of machines to run and less number of physical facilities to accommodate operations. Small scale industries or small business are generally the form of business that produces products and services on a small-scale. This type of industry is normally run through machinery that is operated by humans. These businesses do not require a big workforce and are able to achieve rapid growth by focusing on their targeted market. It also enables smaller companies to compete with big companies in the market. In addition, small businesses are also able to provide better customer service and personalized services that customers expect.
Many companies are operating on small scales and these include some of the leading businesses like McDonald's, Wal-mart, Home Depot, Xerox and many more. The market penetration of these businesses is increasing due to low prices offered by these small-scale companies. These businesses are able to maintain a good customer service reputation due to their flexible work structure and offer employees the opportunity to build up self-employment.
A growing trend for starting a business is to start small and build it up as your business grows. A large percentage of these small businesses are built from the ground up with the owner still working part time. These businesses are usually started from the bottom by one person, who then proceeds to grow the business by adding more employees and working harder to achieve results. The typical characteristics of a small business that has built itself to become a large company are focused and self-sufficient. These businesses also use innovative ways to keep ahead of the competition by using new technological advances to create new products, technology or services.
There is another type of business which is called a medium sized business and it normally consists of between five and ten employees. These businesses can be found in just about every industry in existence. Medium sized businesses usually have been in business for approximately five years and are able to maintain a high level of profitability due to the fact that they are highly diversified in their clientele. The most common small businesses are in the home-based industries such as hobbies, crafts, flower shops, stores, restaurants, non-tech industries, etc. Medium-sized businesses are usually run by owners have significant experience in the industry they are involved in and have proven themselves successful in operating multiple small businesses.
The last type of business is the large scale business. These businesses are corporations or very large organizations such as Wal-mart, AT&T, Microsoft, etc. These large businesses can either own a location locally or they can outsource work to other companies all over the country or world. Many large businesses will purchase entire franchises which allow them to build their own businesses from the ground up and provide hundreds or thousands of jobs for local workers.
With all of these different business structure types the small business meaning all of the aspects that go into running a business is unique. A business can be a successful small business depending on how it was built. Small businesses can be found in nearly every community in America. Starting your own business can be a challenging task if you have never done it before but with the right attitude and determination almost anyone can start their own small business and provide their own employment by growing their own garden, providing customer service, or selling items in their yard.
